If you have a loved-one, employee,
or friend who is suffering from
addiction or alcoholism, I can help.

What is an intervention?
An intervention is a deliberate course of action by a group of people who are close to an individual who has a problem with alcohol or drugs. The overall objective is to confront the person in a non-threatening way and help them to see their self-destructive behavior, and how it affects themselves, family and friends.

Interventions are typically scheduled for the morning immediately following the pre-intervention meeting. It usually takes about one-and-a-half to two hours. It is a structured, solution-focused process that consists of a group of family members, close friends, co-workers, colleagues, spiritual advisors, etc., who come together in a caring and non-judgmental manner to present their observations and concerns regarding the subject's behavior.

It usually involves two or more people who have prepared themselves to talk to someone who has been engaging in some sort of self-destructive behavior. In a clear and respectful way, guided by a facilitator, you will inform this person of factual information regarding his or her behavior and how it may have affected them and you.

The immediate objective of an intervention is for the self-destructive person to listen and to accept help.

What does an intervention facilitator do?

I will meet with the friends and family of the addict or alcoholic and help them prepare for the intervention. With guidance, each participant will create a letter addressed to the addict or alcoholic to be read on the day of the intervention. I will help you create an effective letter and still remain loving and supportive. The early preparation can be done in person, by email, and/or through phone conferences. When the intervening group is ready, we will meet for a rehearsal. On the day of the intervention I will be there to help and ease the process along. The facilitator's job during an intervention is much like that of a conductor with an orchestra.

Interventions which are not professionally facilitated are often ineffective and can cause even more heartache for the loved-ones of the addict. I am a licensed alchohol and drug counselor and have been conducting effective interventions since 1982.
